Facts for February

1. Feb.3rd 1945: The new wing of the Corner Brook General Hospital was opened.
2.Feb.5th 1950: St.Mary's Church Curling was destroyed by fire.
3. Feb.6th 1866: Currency Act passed by the Newfoundland House of assembly changed the use of Pounds and Shillings and Pence to Dollars and Cents.
4.Feb.8th 1920: The railway express train arrived and Port Aux Basques after a 25 day trip across the island.
5. Feb 12th 1872 :Receipt of first mail dispatched to Bay of islands.
Feb 12th 1816: A most distructive fire destroyed a great part of St. John's .About 1500 people were left homeless and the property destroyed amounted to 100,000 pounds or $500,000 .
6.Feb. 14th 1872 :First Post Office establised in Bay of Islands
Feb 14th 1918 Bank of Montreal Curling was destroyed by fire .
7. Feb 15th 1894: The Daily News of St. John's was first published
8. Feb 16th 1872: Two men Rose and Bartlett froze to death at Channel
9. Feb 19th 1890 :A number of hungry men from St. Barbe district crossed into Nippards Hr. in search of food.
10.Feb 19th 1979: Corner Brook Civil Holiday
11. Feb 22nd 1937: The Palace Theatre opened its doors
12. Feb 25th 1868: Sir Wilfred Grenfell was born.

  1. that birth on the 25th of Feb 1968 must have been rather painful...did they use forceps or was it a natural birth LOL....LOL
